Volunteer Today! You can help abused
and neglected children find safe, permanent homes where they can
thrive and succeed in life. As a CASA volunteer, your efforts
will show these children that you care. Become a powerful voice
in a child's life by volunteering to speak up for them in court.
They are people just like you.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) trains volunteers from
all walks of life, ages and ethnic groups to act as a voice in
court for abused and neglected children.
With the constant support, guidance, and supervision of the professional
staff of the Coastal Bend CASA program, volunteers serve as the
courts' eyes and ears. Volunteers help the judges decide whether
a child should stay with the parents, be placed with relatives,
or be free for permanent adoption.
CASA volunteers are there when a child needs someone the most.
In a system over-burdened by increasing caseloads, they make perhaps
the single greatest difference to the child affected by abuse
or neglect.
Volunteer Requirements:
• Clear criminal record and CPS check
• Be at least 21 years of age
• One year commitment to the assigned case

The volunteer determines what is in the child's best interest
by: • Interviewing the child, parents, family
members, school officials, health providers and others who know
the child's history.
• Reviewing all records assigned to the case, including
school, medical and caseworker reports.
• Making reports to the court, giving testimony in hearings,
and by working with attorneys and other professionals involved
in the case.
